Africa, Denis and the Beginning of a Different Life

There are moments in life when you suddenly realise that you cannot continue living the way you have been living. You reach a point where something inside you breaks, and you are left with a choice: either you sink deeper into loneliness and despair, or you do something to save yourself.

For me, that turning point was connected with Africa and with Denis.

Africa was not simply a place I visited. It became part of a period in my life when I was forced to look at myself and at my life differently. And Denis was part of that story too. There are people and experiences that enter our lives at exactly the moment when we need them, even though we may understand their meaning only much later.

I was going through a very difficult time. I felt deeply alone, and there was a real danger that I would simply disappear into that loneliness and despair. I knew that I had to find something that would give me a reason to get up in the morning, something that could hold me when everything else felt uncertain.

That is when painting began to change everything.

I had painted before, but now painting became something much deeper. It began to sing to my soul.

I found myself in colours. In emotions. In the freedom to put onto canvas something that I could not always express in words. The studio became a place where I felt safe. I could close the door on the outside world and enter a space where I did not have to be strong, explain myself or pretend that everything was fine.

I could simply feel.

And perhaps most importantly, I discovered that I could give love without expecting anything in return.

I could pour it into colour, into a face, into a flower, into a gesture, into an entire painting. The canvas did not ask me for anything. It did not judge me. It simply accepted whatever I brought to it.

That was incredibly healing.

Looking back now, I don't think I started painting because I had decided to become an artist. I started because I needed to survive a part of my life. Painting became a way to breathe again.

What began as something deeply personal slowly became my artistic language.

Today, when I stand in front of a blank canvas, I still recognise that feeling. I may begin with an idea, a colour or an image, but somewhere underneath it there is always emotion. My paintings are created from that place where memory, imagination and feeling meet.

This is also why I don't want my art to be only beautiful.

I want it to feel something.

I want a painting to be able to reach a person without explaining itself. Perhaps it reminds them of someone they loved. Perhaps it awakens a forgotten memory. Perhaps it simply gives them a feeling they needed at that particular moment.

For me, that is the real power of original art.

My journey as a Latvian artist did not begin with a career plan. It began with a personal need to find my way back to myself. And the more I painted, the more I understood that this was not something temporary. Painting had become part of who I was.

Africa and Denis belong to the story of how that transformation began. They are part of a chapter that I cannot separate from the woman and artist I became afterwards.

Sometimes we don't choose the moment that changes our life.

We only choose what we do with it.

For me, I chose to paint.

And somewhere between the colours, emotions and silence of the studio, I began to find myself again.

There are moments in life when something that once seemed like a side road quietly becomes the road itself.

For me, that road was art.

Before I became a professional artist, my life was deeply connected with business. I built a successful career, worked for many years, and learned how to make decisions, take responsibility and stand on my own feet.

Then painting became more than something I simply did.

It became a way of seeing.

When painting became part of my life

I have never wanted to fit everything I create into one strict artistic style.

My paintings can be expressive, figurative, floral, intuitive or completely unexpected. What connects them is not a particular formula, but the feeling behind them — colour, emotion, symbolism and a story.

Every original painting begins with something.

Sometimes it is an image.

Sometimes a feeling.

Sometimes simply a thought that refuses to disappear.

That is one of the reasons I continue to paint. I am not interested in repeating myself just because something worked before. I want each artwork to become its own world.

From business to art

Leaving one professional identity and building another is not a small change.

Business taught me independence and discipline. Art taught me something different: to trust intuition, to accept uncertainty and to allow an idea to develop without knowing exactly where it will lead.

Today, these two parts of my life are not opposites.

They are both part of me.

The businesswoman taught me to build.

The artist taught me to listen.

And somewhere between those two worlds, Anda Bieza as an artist began to take shape.

More than decoration

I have never seen an original artwork simply as something that fills an empty wall.

A painting can carry a memory. It can create a feeling that is difficult to explain.

It can remind someone of a person, a place, a period of life — or something they have not yet experienced.

That is why storytelling has become such an important part of my work.

Today, my paintings and one-of-a-kind art dolls are created as original works, each with its own identity and story. My artworks have entered private collections in more than 20 countries, and my work has been presented through exhibitions and international art initiatives.

But numbers are not what made me an artist. The decision to keep creating did.

What changed

Looking back, I think the most important change was not simply that I started painting.

It was that I allowed myself to take my art seriously.

To treat an idea as worth following. To finish a work even when I was not completely sure where it was going. To show it to other people.

And eventually, to let my art become part of my professional identity.

That changed much more than my work.

It changed the way I look at myself.

The artist I am becoming

I don't believe an artist ever reaches a final version of herself.

There is always another painting.

Another idea. Another material. Another story waiting somewhere in life.

That is perhaps what I love most about being an artist.

I can continue changing. And the work can change with me. This is only one part of my story.

There are other stories behind the person I became, including experiences that changed the direction of my life in ways I could not have predicted at the time.

Those stories belong to the next chapters.

For now, this is the part I can say with certainty:

A personal story about building BIEZAART and Anda Dolls, creating original art, and sharing the journey of bringing handmade artworks to collectors around the world.

Every artwork begins with an idea.

Sometimes it arrives quietly. Sometimes it appears in the middle of the night when I should probably be sleeping. And sometimes it simply refuses to leave my mind until I bring it to life.

That is how BIEZAART has grown over the years.

What started as a passion for creating original paintings has gradually become something much bigger—a world filled with color, imagination and stories. Today, that world also includes Anda Dolls, my collection of one-of-a-kind collectible art dolls, each handcrafted as a unique work of art.

People often ask me if I have a grand business plan.

The honest answer?

Not really.

My plan has always been quite simple. Create original art that makes people smile.

If one of my paintings brightens someone's home, or one of my dolls becomes part of a cherished collection, then I've achieved something meaningful.

Of course, there is another member of the team these days.

Artificial Intelligence.

Yes... I have a rather unusual creative partner. While I paint, sculpt and sometimes make an impressive mess in my studio, AI quietly helps me organize ideas, improve my website, write better texts, refine SEO and prepare my work for collectors and galleries around the world.

We make a surprisingly good team.

I create the art.

AI occasionally reminds me that maybe I don't need another midnight redesign of my website.

(Although it rarely succeeds.)

Together, we are building something much bigger than an online gallery.

We are building a place where people from anywhere in the world can discover original paintings, collectible art dolls, and handcrafted artworks created with imagination, craftsmanship and heart.

Some of my artworks have already found homes in more than 20 countries.

Every time I carefully pack a painting or a doll for its journey to a new collector, I wonder where it will live, what conversations it might inspire, and what memories it may become part of.

That thought never gets old.

This Journal is where I'll occasionally share those stories.
